10 miles west of Middlegate, NV to Silver Spring, NV – 66miles, 12mph, 1256 ft elevation gain

Fantastic day of riding and new friends. I got to the top of my first summit and met two awesome fellas. Both from MN. Shlomo and Wes. They met through Adventure Cycling and decided to ride from MN to San Fran. I rode around 25 miles with Wes, Shlomo was way to fast for me. Wonderful to have a riding friend. I also believe God crossed our paths for a very specific reason. The fellas stopped in Fallon and I needed 25 more miles so I continued on to Silver Springs. They are taking a couple of days off here in Fallon. We met back up and enjoyed dinner together.

I must say breathing this smoke is getting tough. Tomorrow I have a massive goal to get to South Lake Tahoe. This also gets me into California. The fires have now closed my plan A roads ( if you remember I was on plan B for safety just 36 hours ago)out of South Lake Tahoe. We are now on to plan C. We are seeing a 22-25 miles stretch I will simply be unable to ride due to the fires. While I am bummed there is simply no other way around this mountain. Please say an extra prayer for the lungs.
