Newton, KS to Sterling, KS – 65mis, 12.3 mph, +1700ft elevation gain
Super de duper FAST day. No hiccups. Just a few rain showers this morning. My jacket was on until 10:45 too. I got up to 1700 in elevation. Gotta get much higher as we enter the Rockies. Just great Kansas miles today. Really loving Kansas. Due to lodging issues being so far and few between I chose to only do 65. We are camped at Sandy Hills State Park. In Kansas, it’s the honor system. You pick a site and put your money in a drop box. Full hook up was $22 as well and we are right next to the pond.
Please pray for clarity on which route to finish this trip. Plan A was to finish in Oregon. Plan B is to finish in San Fran or close. I have never seen any of the west from CO to Sacramento, CA. I have seen most of everything on the north route. My 2016 route was from San Fran. I’m kinda leaning San Fran but the heat out west is scaring me. ESP after yesterday. The San Fran route is aprox 350 miles shorter… not that I want the easier route but that’s 5 days home sooner to my family I’m missing terribly.
There is so much more to this trip than just saddling up and riding a bike. The planning lodging, meals, clothes washing, bike maintenance. Etc etc. LOTS
goes into each day. The lodging or camping is honestly the biggest challenge. I am loving each challenge. It’s been so exciting to watch how God has worked each day out perfectly.
