Day 30 – 06/22/21

Sterling, KS to Schaffer, KS – 65 miles, 10mph, +689ft gain

WINDY Kansas day! Saw some incredible things BUT the wind is the story. At one point the cross winds were so strong that when a semi passed me it lifted me off of my bike seat. No joke. This same wind blew me off of the road many times to where I had to put feet down. My wrists are on fire from white knuckling the handlebars all day. Mostly cross wind.

We road through a national wildlife refuge and stopped at a “scenic overlook”. I was shocked to find one in KS.

We met Sonny who is deaf and doing the Race Across America. He was inspiring. We saw 1 other “racer” ( flying and didn’t chat), 2 cross country leisure folks and a HUGE group of cyclists. In this group 4 were pedaling 1 bike thingy. It was super cool. I hope I got it on the GoPro.

So far Kansas wins the prize for…

  1. Friendliest people
  2. Cleanest roadways
  3. Fewest dead snakes ( zero today )
