Blanding to Fry Canyon, Fry Canyon to Hanksville –
Crazy long post with picture dump. It’s crazy HOT. Yesterday I did 33 miles with a stop at Natural Bridges National Monument. Incredible. We then stayed at this almost abandoned Rec area where we were the only campers. No kidding. Who the heck camps in 107 degree heat.
These last 2 days we are getting up at 3:30AM to get our day started. I get to the drop site at the crack of dawn. Today Jocelynn had to stop me just short of my goal as the heat rose to 102 degrees. My Garmin read 106. I will keep better track of that tomorrow. It was this temp at 11:30am believe it or not. I start my day at about 85 degrees. Today I had 19.7 miles of climb from 1-14% grade the whole way up. Let’s just say I am pooped.
We visited Goblin State Park. Incredible this landscape. I love how God paints, sculpts and molds these creations for us BUT he and I are going to have to discuss this insane heat. Honestly I will climb to 10,200 in elevation (I was at 3,800 today) before leaving this state and I am looking forward to this because they promise 30 degree cooler weather.
Enjoy our photos. We have certainly been having fun. My hat is off to Jocelynn. I don’t think any of you fully understand all she does. She sets drink alarms, sun screen alarms, sodium intake and she is the one I trust and listen to when she says we are done… we are done. I must listen or I don’t ride tomorrow. I have taught her everything to look for in case of heat emergencies and the maximum point I can honestly push my body safely. It was hard stopping less than a mile from my goal today BUT she knew she had to stop me before today ended badly. You have no idea how much I love this girl. She has my life in her hands daily and this ride doesn’t happen without her.
Next is Kristy Kimball Massey. You guys don’t see her BUT she is working her bum off to see that I get across this state. She gives me daily updates on lodging, food, fuel etc etc etc so all I do is ride. Kristy programmed every map I follow on my phone. Again. So all I do is ride. Kristy is my emergency go to when something is amuck and I need urgent questions answered. Again, this ride doesn’t happen without her! I love her to pieces. Thank you girl.
To everyone of you…. God hears your prayers and is answering them. Please don’t stop. To all of you whom have donated or provided food. Thank you. I consume thousands of calories daily. You are my blessings.
All I do is ride. Ride and enjoy this beauty. Some days are easier than others and some are downright difficult. I’m in some difficult days but the coast is getting closer.
