Day 44 – 07/06/21

Dolores, CO to boarder of UT – 37 miles, 17,60ft elevation gain

Phew. Another crazy day in the books. Just another day of watching God manage this huge ride. He really does have the details all worked out.

We started our day at the Cortez Dodge Dealer because of a check engine light. They checked out The Silver Bullet and it appears that running her for long periods of time only averaging 10 mph is not good for these Diesel exhaust systems. Sooo, they took out our codes and had us drive on this road for 35 miles ( really fast) to blow the gunk out of her filter??? We did and she seems better.

So, I get on the bike around 11am and ride to Dove Creek and my bike really doesn’t want to shift. And in the mountains you MUST shift. Soooo. We googled bike shops, called Breakaway in Peru to see if I could fix it and found a bike shop in Cortez.  Back where the truck needed repairs.  Black Beauty and The Silver Bullet need to get on the same page for repairs.  We drove to our bike shop and sure enough my shifter cable was frayed.  I was back on the road in less than 30 minutes.

I finished with a second ride as the temp rose to 104 degrees but was determined to hit Utah. We met some amazing kids traveling from Miami, FL to California and hitting National Parks on the way.

We are camped in Monticello next to 3 teachers and their sister. One teaches stem and science, one is an elementary principal and the other an asst. principal. It was so fun chatting with them. Our RV park is incredible. The nicest bathrooms yet.

Excited to see some Utah countryside/ mountains.
