June 1st – Fort Bragg to Navato, CA

A few months ago my massage therapist asked me if I was going to be close to Glass Beach on my bike tour. I told her that I had never heard of the place but if we were close, I would definitely want to stop and see it. I got home that day and looked it up on the map and it was going to be too far out of our way. So now today, another bucket list place for me to go and see. Kelly and I were quick to get up and out the door this morning to head to Glass Beach.

Glass Beach is part of the well-known southern beach of MacKerricher State Park in Fort Bragg. This site was once a trash dump back in 1959. Broken bottles from the garbage cans of local residents have been transformed into little treasure glass pebbles. I can now say I have walked on glass barefooted and it didn’t even hurt. I wish I could’ve taken better pictures that show you what it actually looks like in real life, but this these are the best I can do. So beautiful and to think this beautiful beach was made out of trash. It is truly beautiful to see all of these different colors of glass rocks lining the beach. If time and the movement of water can round off many sharp edges, think of what time and going through the movement of life can do to the rough edges of our souls. It can also smooth us and shapes us into little beautiful treasures.

After I satisfied my photography thirst we jumped in the car and headed to San Francisco. It was about a 3 hour drive of windy, twisty and hilly roads. We began to see a lot of Wineries and vineyards dotting the hillsides. I added another ride to my list for tomorrow, ride through Sonoma! I mean how cool would it be to ride though wine country and go to a Winery? I’m beginning to like the flexibility of throwing out my plans and living day to day and wandering.

We made it to Mairnwood Inn in Novato around 5. What a great hotel. Big rooms and a kitchen. I would definitely stay here again. Up the way was a fancy schmancy little California cuisine restaurant called Crave. We sat outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. I was a little underdressed in my big red t-shirt and shorts that I have worn just about everyday so far, but they still took us. The food was delicious and atmosphere was great. It’s a farm to table restaurant and the presentation of the food would make anyone want to come back over and over again. It tasted divine. Okay… maybe it is because I have basically eaten fast food for dinners so far and nothing this past week has excited my taste buds yet, but this place sure got me excited about food again. I am now good to go for the next week of blah food. Thank you Crave!

I reviewed our map of the way I was going to ride in San Francisco tomorrow and our plans to head towards Sonoma and a bike route there. I decided against riding in the city of San Fran and just do the short bridge. then we would have more time to sight see in the city and get lunch at the Fisherman’s Wharf along Pier 39. Can’t believe we are here and Donita is not! I’m a mixed bag of emotions. The situation is what it is and I can’t change that now. We are going to wander around and make the best of it, I can promise you that.

Enjoy the pictures of Glass Beach. night y’all. Thank you to those that have reached out and messaged me or text or called I feel the love and I feel the prayers. Be blessed
